The Ballad Of Irving / Frank Gallop (1966)

Glancing Back
Glancing Back

Unless you were a Doctor Demento fan, I’m pretty sure you never heard this one. Irving was from the old Bar Mitzvah spread and is most famous for being the 142nd fastest gun in the West. I used to howl at this song back in the day.

As heard on ... Dr. Demento
As heard on … Dr. Demento

I still love songs about cowards for comedic effect. This song does that to great effect and I think you should enjoy it, too. It was a parody of Lorne Greene’s song “Ringo” which was a hit shortly before this was released. Gallop was the narrator on the program “Lights Out” but is probably best known as the announcer on the Perry Como program. You can definitely attest to his wonderful deep voice in this tune.

Give it a listen and enjoy this blast from the past.
