Amazon Prime picks for September 2020

Amazon Prime Picks

As many of you know, I am a fan of Amazon Prime video selections. Let’s take a look at what’s streaming. There’s some good stuff out there!

Here’s a list of my picks for the month:

Long Live the King is a documentary on what is possibly one of the greatest films ever made, King Kong. I like this doc because it interviews excellent film experts, gives you some background that you wouldn’t get casually regarding the film, it explores the legacy of the film along with the original and, perhaps most importantly, gets you excited to see the film, either as a rewatch or for the first time. Highly recommended! Not currently free on Prime, but it switches to free fairly often. Keep an eye on this one.

The television show Chuck was a great freaking show. I loved this thing and watched every episode when it originally aired. It introduced me to
Zachary Levi
and Yvonne Strahovski, but most importantly gave Adam Baldwin a home until he could ship out on the Last Ship. The main story is Chuck, a member of a Best Buy-ish Geek Squad, is uploaded some spy skills and intel. He’s the wrong guy in the wrong place and he his handled by a gruff Baldwin and sexy Strahovski (guess who is more effective) as he stumbles his way through episodic hijinks.

At the Drive-In is a documentary regarding a rural Pennsylvania drive-in theater, among the few that still exist in the wild. Instead of giving us a history lesson on the state of Drive-In’s and how they got there, this movie focuses on a single theater and the odd characters that battle to keep the entertainment option viable.

Deep Blue Sea 3 is the latest in the sharks munching on swimmers to hit streaming. The first film by Renny Harlin is a campy fun ride while the second film is a complete mess. This one returns to its roots and benefits from “better-than-average-for-this-genre” acting, an insane plot, and some satisfying sharks swallowing swimmer action. Currently, you will pay for the privilege to see this one, but I don’t know how long that will be there. I expect this to go free in the new year.
